Sure, Ruby popped up right at the end, but overall it was a clean finish. "Second Coming" also managed to nicely differentiate itself from the Season 1 finale by not giving us a stark, apocalyptic cliffhanger. From Ash being forced to drink Henrietta's demon breast milk (and the return of the final form "I'll swallow your soul" head!) to Baal being skinned by his own fiendish fingernail to Ash getting some "sugar" from Linda (PLUS FORCE GHOSTS!) - this was a wild ride. All that aside though, "Second Coming" was disarmingly gross and entertaining. Here's hoping Season 3 sorts her out well.

1980s blonde Ruby wound up surviving the burning hell-cabin at the end, and transporting back to the present with our heroes (I guess it's somewhat of a mystery how they got back home too), but who is this character now? Is she still full evil? Is she a mix of both? Ruby turning that corner this year and regretting her actions was a good way to repackage her and fix some of Season 1's vagueness, but now she's back to being a puzzle box. Plus, because Season 1 never really filled us in on who or what Ruby was exactly, making her a bit muddled, it wasn't exactly the best choice to bring back old Ruby. Don't get me wrong, watching Kelly fight back against the legions of hell is awesome, but I was hoping she'd come to more of a crossroads at the end of this season - one where she'd have to make more of a lasting choice.
But once good Ruby died, Kelly just wound up doubling down on Ash. It really seemed like Kelly was headed toward a big decision about her own journey in life, either as a solo hunter or Ash's successor (had something happened to him). At this point, we'll either never find out what Ash's true connection to the demon world is and it'll just become a running joke (which could be pretty funny), or this is something we'll dig into next year.Ĩ Images The elements of "Second Coming" that didn't really land quite right involved the death of Ruby, the rise of new/old Ruby, and the flat ending to Kelly's Season 2 arc. Ash drowned him before he got the chance to. Did Brock get to spill the beans? Nope! Of course not. It was especially funny to watch Ash re-kill his own dad, Brock, who showed up somehow, on his own, in the past to try and once again tell Ash the dark secret about their family lineage. That all worked, as did Ash's big brawl with Baal. He had not been defeated by Pablo and instead had manipulated Ash to go back into the past so that he could find a still-evil Ruby. Here, in this blast into the past, it was Ash trying to course correct everything, though as we'd discover, Baal was still very much at large and working his trickery. Like I mentioned last week, it was great to have both seasons of this show end with a two cabin episodes, each endgame arc done under different circumstances.
